Clueless IT student
From a mailing list on symfony:
I m in final year IT branch student.I wanna give seminar on symfony. But don’t have enough idea to deal with.what should i do?
I am accepting appropriate answer suggestions in the comments. Here some of mine:
- I wanna become rich, but no idea, plz help!
- You want give or you have to give?
- What are you studying? And how comes that in the final year you still have no clue on how to ask on mailing lists for help appropriately?
Or do you you think that I am too cruel to that poor guy?

It is just a shame. I’m not familiar with symphony but for sure I don’t want to attend his/her seminar.
But this is a typical mailing list problem, isn’t it? Strange questions from strange people.

I don’t think you’ve been too harsh – people need to respect the level of commitment one needs in order to study and understand topics such as framework, componentized development and OOP principles.
Like one time, I had an acquaintance ask me about showing them how to modify a template in Flash.
“Great, let’s start with the basics – you open the template…”
“Wait, which program are you using?”
“Erm, Flash 9. Anyways, you open…”
“Where can you get it?”
…several minutes later…
“Okay, so I just change the text thing like in Word, then what do I do?”
“You upload via FTP.”
“Say wha?”
And this goes on and on. Apart from being clueless and ignorant in the way the Internet actually worked, he expected me to impart onto him the knowledge to develop a full-sized web site in under an hour. Since I’m not playing the part in My Fair Lady, I decided not to take up the challenge.
But the point remains – while I’m not snobbish and want to help other people learn about web technologies (and informatics in general), the level of ignorance displayed by people from whom you’d expect a decent level of knowledge is just staggering.
If you’re in the final year in IT, you don’t get to ask such questions. Period. It’s expected of you to know AT LEAST the basics. That’s what happens if you cram for exams without really trying to understand just what you’re doing. Dumbass.
