Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 upgrade works smoothly

Tonight, after my MSDN download finished, I upgraded my Windows Vista to 7. Upgrade procedure is quite lengthy (over 2 hours on a quite high end system), but everything I tested worked as before.  I miss my Quick Launch a bit, but besides that its nice. And indeed it feels faster. Lets seee what the next days bring, and if there will be an upgradable German version for my Media Center.

DBAN slow on Dual Cores

I am currently wiping a hard disc for ebay with Darriks Boot and Nuke. It was reeeeaaally slow. Then I found a short snippet in a a forum recommending 1.0.6 instead of 1.0.7. you can find an installer for 1.0.6 by searching for dban-1.0.6_i386.exe

That really solved it. from 800hours down to 5hours

Speaking at the Java User Group Cologne

Just got the confirmation, that on Monday, 5th of October, I will have a slot at the Java User Group Cologne.

My topic for the evening will be Eclipse RAP, I will give an intro into the technology, followed by some live examples. Yes I know live examples are a lot more work to prepare, but I think the real benefit of RAP shows only with a live example.

So hope to see you there! Please note that most likely all talks are in German.

And in case you don’t like my topic, perhaps you will like the other two: “Java & Python” and “Hudson”

Magic Numbers

Here the geekiest Prime, my colleague Rob has disclosed to me today:

23423423423

Breathtaking, isn’t it? If you do not believe that this is a prime, here proof on Wolfram Alpha.

Another spooky set of numbers I found in “The Geeks’ Guide to World Domination“:

1/7 = 0.142857
2/7 = 0.285714
3/7 = 0.428571
4/7 = 0.571428
5/7 = 0.714285
6/7 = 0.857142

Note that it also contains a 42 :)

If you are having trouble to see why that is interesting here resorted and some more digits

1/7 = 0.142857142857142857
5/7 = 0.714285714285714285
4/7 = 0.571428571428571428
6/7 = 0.857142857142857142
2/7 = 0.285714285714285714
3/7 = 0.428571428571428571

Proposal for a new Javascript Event

Fresh from my daily coding:

<div onlick="nextItem()">next</div>

took a while for me to realize why it did not work as desired. However, wouldn’t that be a good event for some adult content sites?
